THE HISTORY OF ACBA

At the beginning of the 21st century, society witnessed the boom in amateur cycling. At that time, some teams, clubs, recreational associations, and organizers of local events began to be created, and the Viseu region was no exception. Over time, a flaw in the close relationship between these entities and the Portuguese Cycling Federation was identified, and it was with the aim of creating this connection, that a group of people passionate about the sport came together, to found what is today the Beira Alta Cycling Association

At the end of 2013, the first steps were taken, with several meetings held with the UVP-FPC, in order to collect the necessary information for the creation of the association. At that time, and after obtaining the opinion of the teams and clubs in the region, the Installation Committee was created and began the process.

The Viseu Regional Cycling Association (ARCV) was born on July 30, 2014, with Ana Paula Tomás as President, Cristiano Gonçalves as Deputy President, Fernando Mendes Financial Director, Joaquim Patrício Mountain Bike Director, among others. . It was officially presented at the UVP-FPC General Assembly and approved in October 2014.

In 2015, the first season of regional competition, it was possible to introduce the regional XCM (Marathons) and XCO (Cross country) championships and the first t-shirts of regional champions of this association were awarded.

The colors chosen for the Association were Red and Yellow, according to the colors of the flag of the city that gave it its name, Viseu.

On December 5, 2020, the Extraordinary General Assembly approved the change in the name of the association to “Beira Alta Cycling Association”, the name it assumes from January 1, 2021.
